How to Glow from the Inside Out

Look in magazines today, and you’ll see countless articles promoting the “next best beauty product” that’s supposed to totally transform our skin. They’re made with everything under the sun—from natural sugars and sea salt to charcoal, gold and, yes, even diamonds—and they all get increasingly more expensive.

While there may be merit to some of these products’ claims, what if I told you you could get your MOST BEAUTIFUL skin simply by giving your body a little TLC? Read below to find out how our eating, drinking and sleep habits can help us glow from the inside out.

What We Eat

We are literally what we eat. The food we fuel our bodies with has a lot to do with the health of our skin. Eating for good skin is a lot like eating for a healthy life! Plenty of vegetables and low-glycemic fruits like bell peppers, greens and berries, for example, are packed with antioxidants that protect us from aging and help our skin glow.

Fatty fish, like salmon, have high amounts of Vitamin E and Zinc that prevent skin damage, while fish oil keeps our skin looking young and supple. On top of that, healthy gut bacteria has a direct impact on healthy skin! Add probiotics like kimchi to your diet to help your skin get more elasticity and moisture.

What We Drink

I can’t talk about this enough: water, water, water! It is recommended that women drink at least 74 ounces, or 9 cups, of water per day. Drinking water helps our bodies flush out toxins and increases blood flow to the skin, which gives it a more even tone. One way I make sure I drink plenty of water is to always keep a BPA-free, refillable water bottle with me.

While water is a must, other great ways to hydrate our skin is by drinking coconut water and green juices. Coconut water has intense hydrating properties and is a solid source of potassium, calcium and magnesium. Green juices are a great way to add in more of the vitamins and nutrients our bodies crave.

How Well We Sleep

Sleep affects how we feel and function, and a lack of sleep can actually make us age, too. Studies have shown that chronic poor sleep is connected to fine lines and uneven skin tone. No thank you! To make sure our skin gets a nice, youthful, healthy glow, we must aim to get at least 7-8 hours of quality of sleep per night.
