In My Kitchen: 5 Food and Drink Items I Can’t Live Without

By: Megan Mae

We all have those go-to foods that we have in our kitchen at all times—in fact, I have five! From snacks to smoothie ingredients, here are five food and drink items I always have on hand:

Unsweetened Almond Milk:

If you read my post about vegan smoothies, then you know how much I love unsweetened almond milk! In addition to serving as an excellent dairy milk substitute, one serving of almond milk is great for controlling blood sugar levels, comes packed with HALF your daily Vitamin E needs (hello, beautiful skin!) and has more calcium and Vitamin D than regular dairy milk! I like getting unsweetened almond milk because I can mix it with almost anything.

Chocolate Almond Milk:

When I’m craving something sweet I pour myself a cup of chocolate almond milk. It satisfies my sweet tooth, plus it has the health benefits of almond milk and a sweet, chocolatey flavor! Delicious.

Vegan Protein Powder:

This is also for my protein shakes! For me, vegan protein shakes are quick, filling, delicious meal or snack options when I’m fresh off a workout or running short on time. Vegan protein powder gives you just as much protein as whey protein powder options, without the bloating. Because it’s plant based, vegan protein powder also has good amounts of fiber, fuels our bodies with much-needed nutrients, aids digestion and has no harmful hormones or antibiotics.

I throw 1-2 handfuls of spinach in my shakes. I also love a good salad, but instead of lettuce, I tend to opt for spinach! This leafy green is rich in Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin K, Magnesium, Iron and Manganese and is good for eye health and blood pressure.

This easy, healthy snack has high levels of antioxidants and Omega-3s, promotes a healthy gut, is an anti-inflammatory and reduces our risk of Type 2 Diabetes, heart disease and even certain cancers. Plus… it’s filling, too. I always have some in my kitchen!

To your health!
